About This Tour

Experience the serene magic of the Ontario wilderness in winter. Our journey takes you through snow-covered trails at Algonquin, following the shoreline of Cache Lake and the Madawaska River under wintry skies. The climb to the viewpoint becomes a crisp ascent with sweeping icy vistas. We pause at Lake of Two Rivers, the frozen shoreline offering stillness and a breath of winter air. Then, driving via Highway 60, we arrive at Ragged Falls — where the Oxtongue River thunders beneath a coating of ice, the rock formations accented with frost. It's a winter wonderland for hikers, photographers and anyone captivated by snow, ice and quiet landscapes.

What to Expect

Moderate to challenging winter hikes on snow-covered or icy trails, expect slower pace, extra care on footing.

Tranquil winter scenery: frozen lakes, subdued colours, sharp vistas and the dramatic contrast of white snow and dark rock.

Crisp, clear air and fewer crowds than summer, ideal for contemplative nature walks or photography.

Trails accessible, but conditions may require care (icy patches, snow, colder temps). No swimming; focus is on visual and tactile experience of winter nature.

What to Bring

Warm, layered clothing, dress for cold temperatures and changing conditions.

Waterproof winter boots with good traction, trails can be slippery.

Hat, gloves, and scarf, essential for comfort during longer stops.

Ice cleats or crampons, helpful for extra grip on icy trails.

Thermos with a warm drink and snacks, perfect for breaks between stops.

Camera or smartphone, frozen waterfalls make for incredible photos.

Small backpack, to carry your essentials hands-free.
