Explore the wild beauty of Lion's Head Provincial Park, part of the Niagara Escarpment and renowned for its striking limestone cliffs and rock formations dating back over 400 million years. This iconic area offers some of the most breathtaking viewpoints in Ontario.
Our day centers around a ~10 km loop hike, passing through one of the oldest and least disturbed forest ecosystems in the province. Along the way, we'll stop at multiple lookouts overlooking sheer cliffs, glacier-carved potholes, and the unmistakable profile of the Lion's Head, all set above the crystal-clear blue waters of Georgian Bay.
About halfway through the hike, we'll descend from the cliffs to a natural opening along the shoreline. Here, you'll have the chance to swim in Georgian Bay, invigorating and cold even in summer, but incredibly refreshing after a long hike. This scenic spot is also where we'll stop to enjoy lunch together before beginning the return portion of the trail.
Please note that Lion's Head is a non-serviced park: there are no bathrooms or garbage bins along the trail. Everything you bring in must be carried out. On the drive back to Toronto, we'll round out the day with a stop at Inglis Falls, Owen Sound's most famous waterfall, followed by a visit to a local restaurant before heading home.
A full-day, physically demanding hike with significant distance and elevation changes. Spectacular viewpoints along cliff edges overlooking Georgian Bay. Ancient forests and unique limestone formations shaped by glaciers and erosion. A memorable swim and lunch stop along the shoreline halfway through the hike. No facilities on the trail, a true back-to-nature experience. A rewarding waterfall stop at Inglis Falls and a relaxed restaurant visit on the return to Toronto.
